Do I need a referral?
No, anyone is able to attend podiatry with or without a referral.
Am I Covered?
Depends on health fund and cover. However, some patients can qualify for a referral via the enhanced primary care program. (EPCs are bulk billed.
Health Insurance
Australian health funds cover podiatry services; so provided that you have this included in your cover, you should receive a rebate from your fund. Our practice has health fund claiming available for on the spot claiming
Medicare/DVA
Medicare will cover some, but not all patients for Podiatric Services. As a part of the Chronic Disease Management Team Care Arrangements (also known as Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) Program), Medicare will provide podiatry cover to a select group of patients with long standing chronic conditions such as Diabetes, cardio-vascular disease, chronic arthritis and a handful of other diseases that will significantly affect your feet and lower limbs and your ability to care for them.
According to Medicare’s guidelines, EPC patients must have a referral from their GP, and are entitled to a maximum of 5 visits per year. You should speak with your GP to discuss your eligibility.
